Beautiful Young Souls – Episode 3

(Original art by Tim Lee, no generative AI)

I have been a Montana Caricature Artist now for the last 9 years out of Great Falls, Montana. But before that, I spent 16 years in Orlando Florida where I started my career in caricature being contracted to work at some of the theme parks and hotels. During that time you begin to see a lot of patterns, and see how different cultures handle “tourism”.

One if my favorites I remember is one specific young lady, based on her cloths (and the branding on them) that she was Brazilian and had worked quite diligently that morning for the day’s journey around the theme parks.  Makeup, long eye lashes, HUGE heals, and a coat with a fur collar. Her hair was straight and long down her her rear and she walked liked a model on a runway, and it was clear she was determined to keep up this look the entire day. The only thing that didn’t play in her favor was the day’s schedule of events, and it was easily 95 degrees outside with our usual extreme humidity, so it was very clear in our minds that the image before us would not be the same when the park closed.

Drawing so many people during the day, you forget some of the individuals you saw from the beginning. But I looked up and there she was, it was clear she had been on high speed rollercoasters to toss the smooth hair around, on a log flume to soak her designer jeans and fur collared coat, the heat causing her makeup to come off cakes with heals in her hands walking barefoot across the hot ground. I was certain if we had a closer look at her, we would find her false lashes holding on by a single strand of melted glue. She was the image of exhaustion, bent forward with a hunched back, not quite the model we saw from earlier. While we had a little chuckle over the image, she was one of many young ladies, mothers, and young men, from many different cultures who all had had a similar day, all with the goal to represent themselves well during their experience. My honest hope is that they enjoyed themselves despite their failed efforts.
